Chinese Family Words for Kids: 爸爸, 妈妈 and More with Pinyin
Chinese family member words for kids with characters, pinyin and meanings, why so many repeat (妈妈, 哥哥), neutral-tone tips, and family-tree worksheet ideas.
Paste the characters your child, student or you are learning this week. Get a clean A4 sheet with pinyin above every character, set in a proper 田字格 (tianzige) grid, ready to print.
Pinyin sits above each character in the grid, so a learner can read a short text, a word list or a poem and connect sound to shape.
Characters are printed in light grey for tracing over. Children learning in Chinese schools use this kind of sheet to practise proportion and stroke placement inside the grid.
Only the pinyin is printed and the squares are empty. Read the words aloud (or let the learner read the pinyin) and have them write the characters from memory.
Punctuation gets its own square, as it does in Chinese exercise books, and paragraphs start with a two-square indent. You print exactly the text you paste, not a fixed list from someone else.
Everything runs in your browser. Your text is not uploaded anywhere.

Our short guides explain the basics parents and teachers ask about most: teaching the four tones, the full initials and finals chart, how to use a tianzige grid, the tone change rules for 一, 不 and third tones and a starter list of characters for young learners.
Is it free? Yes. There is no account and no sign-up. We may show ads in future to cover hosting costs; the tool will stay free.
Can I use the sheets in my class? Yes. Print as many as you like for your own children, students or Chinese school.
Is the pinyin always right? Usually, but not always. Some characters are read differently depending on the word (for example 长 is cháng in 长短 but zhǎng in 长大). The generator flags these so you can check them. Always look over a sheet before handing it out.
Simplified or traditional characters? The generator is designed for simplified characters as used in mainland China. If you paste traditional characters, check the pinyin carefully before printing.
Does it do stroke order? Not at launch. The current modes are full, tracing and blank (dictation).
